Security cameras capture the events that unfolded when a San Gabriel mother said authorities wrongfully entered her home and detained her children for no reason.Months after the incident, the family tells KTLA they’re still traumatized and are demanding answers as they feel their civil rights were violated.“It was terrifying," said homeowner, Ceidy Cordova. "My kids should have never gone through this. Never. They shouldn’t ever put hands on them at all.”It was Oct. 22, 2022, when Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies entered Cordova’s apartment in the 5100 block of Rosemead Boulevard. At the time, Cordova said she and her husband had gone out and their two teenage children - 14-year-old Isaac and 19-year-old Aliza, were home alone.“When she said that they were already in there and they were being aggressive and trying to grab her, that’s when I turned on the cameras," said Cordova. Plus classical music in the mansion, an arresting and rather magical new dance film, painters tackling organic geometry, painters reflecting their backgrounds in vivid tableaux, poetry and the theater, poetry by the pool, dreamy avant-garde cinema, and fucked up ceramics. A Male Birth Control Pill May Finally Be on the Horizon

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:27:10 GMT

Lots of guys have been wanting more birth control options for them. However, they’ve always been limited to a few solutions. Enter the male birth control pill! Though it’s not in the market (yet) — as scientists are still in the testing phase — men can potentially take oral contraceptives to prevent unplanned pregnancy. How did scientists test the male birth control pill?Scientists from the National Institutes of Health recently tested the contraceptive on mice. They allowed the rodents to copulate while the male rodents were on the male birth control pill. When they retrieved the sperm from the female mice, the sperm cells remained “incapacitated.” As a result, the female mice didn’t become pregnant. How does the contraceptive work? The contraceptive works by disabling an enzyme called adenylyl cyclase (sAC) — which triggers the sperm cells to swim to the egg cell. According to the researchers, the male birth control pill started to work on the male mice within 30 minutes to an hour —...

California bills to expand state tax credits could send $1 billion to low-income families

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:27:10 GMT

When Reyna Bonilla lost her job cleaning hotel rooms in 2020 at the start of the pandemic, she used tax credits and other pandemic relief to chip away at past-due rent so she and her two children could stay in their Koreatown apartment in Los Angeles. This year things are different. Bonilla cleans homes a few days a week but only makes about $10,000 a year. Most of her pandemic aid has phased out, so she struggles to keep up with expenses.Add to that, her youngest child turned 6 in November, making Bonilla ineligible for California’s Young Child Tax Credit. Her tax refund will be $1,083 less this year, squeezing her already tight budget.“Sometimes I say I’m going to save money and I start saving,” she said, “but the prices go up and I can’t do it anymore.”Advocates say California’s tax credits are more crucial now, as low-income families like Bonilla’s struggle to financially recover from the pandemic as other government relief programs end.For instance, the federal government in 202...
